Every oak we take down is a lot of firewood. Some of it goes home with the customer, some of it we cut and split ourselves. Either way it is real hardwood from real trees in Horry County, not a bundle from a gas station.
Two ways to get it
Keep the wood from your own tree
If we are removing a tree or doing a heavy trim at your house and the wood is oak, hickory, pecan, or another good hardwood, tell Corey when he gives you the price. Instead of hauling the trunk, the crew cuts it to firewood length and stacks the rounds where you want them. You save some on the hauling, and you have a season or two of wood curing in the yard.
Splitting on site can be arranged too. Ask about it on the estimate.
Buy firewood from us
We split and stack the hardwood from our jobs, and we sell it when we have it. Availability depends on what we have taken down lately, so call or text (843) 927-2499 and ask what is on hand. Tell us roughly how much you want and where you are, and we will tell you what we have and what it costs.
Oak, and why it takes patience
Most of what comes off our trailer is live oak, water oak, and laurel oak, with some hickory and pecan. Oak is the best firewood on the coast: dense, long-burning, and it makes coals that hold overnight. It also needs time. Freshly cut oak is heavy with water and will hiss and smoke rather than burn. Split it, stack it off the ground with air moving through it, cover only the top, and give it a year. Two is better. Wood that is ready is grey on the ends, cracked, lighter than it looks, and rings when two pieces knock together.
Pine is easy to light and burns hot and fast, and it leaves creosote in a chimney. We do not sell it as firewood and we recommend hauling it away when we take a pine down.
Buying in the fall
Everyone thinks about firewood the first cold night in November, which is when supply is tightest and wood is greenest. If you burn every winter, the time to line up next year's wood is spring, when the trees come down and the wood has all summer to season. Call in April and you will burn dry oak in December.
Firewood is part of the job, not a store
We are a tree service first. Firewood is what happens to good wood when the job is done, and we would rather it heat a house in Conway than sit in a landfill. If you want the wood from your tree, ask. If you want to buy a load, call and we will tell you what we have.
