Little River is the northern end of our range and one of the oldest settlements on the coast. The waterfront along Mineola Avenue and the creek has live oaks that have been there for centuries. The neighborhoods that spread out along Highway 17, Highway 9, and Highway 90 have pines and hardwoods left from when the land was cleared.
Trees in Little River
Waterfront live oaks along the creek and the marsh are the town's best trees. They need deadwood removed, clearance off roofs and docks, and their long limbs lightened at the ends every few years. They do not need topping, and we will not do it.
Pines and hardwoods in the neighborhoods inland, from Cypress Bay and Eagle Trace to the newer developments along Highway 90, are close to houses and shed limbs every storm. A pine that leans or has lost its top is a removal. A hardwood dropping dead limbs on the roof usually needs trimming.
Cedars along property lines and the marsh edge go over in saturated ground and land on fences, docks, and service drops.
Working on waterfront and wooded lots
On the creek, the tree has the house behind it and the water in front. It comes down in pieces from the top, every section lowered on a rope into the yard, with nothing in the water or on the dock. In the wooded subdivisions, the issue is usually the neighbor's house a few feet away. Same answer: climb it, rig it, lower it.
If a tree cannot be climbed safely, a compact tracked lift fits through a standard gate and reaches over a two-story house.
Storms at the top of the Strand
Little River gets the wind from every direction, and storms coming up the coast arrive here last but not lightest. After a blow we clear trees off roofs and drives, remove hangers, and haul the debris. Lines involved means the power company goes first. Before the season, deadwood out and weight off the limbs over the house is the best money you can spend. More on the storm cleanup page.
