The county seat and a live oak town. Old neighborhoods near downtown and the river, big trees close to houses, and city rules about removing the large ones.

Beach cottages under old live oaks, pines in the neighborhoods west of Kings Highway, rental properties, and everything the wind does in hurricane season.

Cherry Grove, Ocean Drive, Crescent Beach, Windy Hill, and Barefoot. Beach-section lots, canal yards, and the golf-course neighborhoods inland along Highway 17 and Highway 9.

Why the whole Grand Strand and not one town
A climbing crew travels light. The truck, the trailer, the ropes, and the saws go wherever the tree is, so a job in Little River is no harder to reach than one in Socastee. What changes from town to town is the trees themselves: old live oaks in Conway and Murrells Inlet, tall pines packed close to houses in Carolina Forest, salt-pruned oaks and wind damage along the beach.
